NIACINAMIDE FOR THE WHOLE TRIBE
B E A U T Y
Niacinamide, branded as the skincare industry’s all-rounder, and must-have ingredient. She’s a perfect match for just about every skin type. From the sensitive sisters to combination queens and even skin ageing gracefully. I’m here to share the science behind the magic of niacinamide and why you need it in your skincare routine.
.
WHAT IS NIACINAMIDE?
Niacinamide, also known as Vitamin B3, is an active ingredient and essential nutrient for your skin. It primarily helps to reinforce skin barrier function, but it has many more additional benefits..
This nutrient can naturally be found in a number of foods, such as: broccoli, tomatoes, mushrooms, avocados, carrots, Swiss chard, spinach, sweet potatoes, and seeds.
WHAT CAN NIACINAMIDE DO FOR MY SKIN?
1. HYPERPIGMENTATION
She's the skin tone filter, but for real. A powerhouse for reducing hyperpigmentation (uneven skin tone) fading them annoying dark spots.
2. UV PROTECTANT
She's there when you’re in trouble. Niacinamide protects us against UV rays and other environmental aggressors like air pollution, infrared radiation and hot and cold temperatures, which can all impact your skin.
3.RETAINS MOISTURE
Niacinamide can create a healthy ceramide barrier. Up to 40% of your outer skin layer(epidermis) is made of ceramides. This is music to the ears for dry skin types, as this will help retain moisture levels.
4.STIMULATES COLLAGEN
She's the Benjamin button in a bottle. Niacinamide helps with anti-ageing by stimulating collagen production! Collagen depletes as we age making the skin sag and change in texture. So if you want smooth and firm skin, get this in the routine.
5.ACNE BUSTER
She's your blemish bestie. Niacinamide helps balance the production of sebum, so blackheads, pimples, acne, and enlarged pores will all be a thing of the past.
6. ROSACEA REMEDY
She's the rosacea sidekick. Being an antioxidant niacinamide can target inflammation and minimise the redness caused by rosacea including the typical papules and pustules.
HOW CAN I ADD IT TO MY ROUTINE?
Water-based serums, creams, masks, facial Spritz/toners and even cleansers. Here’s my top picks.
FINAL FINAL TIPS…
She plays nice with everyone; you can use niacinamide with literally every ingredient under the sun. Retinol, peptides, hyaluronic acid, AHAs, BHAs, antioxidants. The only ingredient you won’t want to mix with it is vitamin c. Vitamin c causes niacinamide to it turn into niacin, which sometimes causes short-term effects such as skin redness and tingling. If you do use Vitamin C use her in the morning, then have your other bestie, ready for the evening routine. Just don’t mix them at the same time.
