STYLISHLY SUSTAINABLE

F A S H I O N

If you’re a nineties kid like me, the thought of repeating an outfit back in the day was, just a no-go. With the rise of influencers now recycling their looks, and the exclusively of buying vintage, not to mention the big announcement from Love Islands partnership with eBay, (yes the islanders will be wearing pre-loved garms) could fast fashion be a thing of the past and sustainable style the trend that lasts?

+In my opinion, there's two sides to this story. From one side buying second hand is amazing for the planet, but as we know more sustainable independent brands do come with a higher price point, which most households are unable to afford, especially now more than ever. So for someone to be able to follow trends, well they simply wont be able to keep up with the costs, hence to why a lot of people turn to fast fashion and their lower price tags.

+From another angle buying less enables you to create a staple wardrobe that will last the seasons, as lets be honest, fashion repeats itself year after year. Generally speaking, with higher price points, usually comes better quality goods, meaning they last longer, equaling a more sustainable wardrobe. Am I right?

HOW CAN I CREATE A MORE UNSUSTAINABLE WARDROBE?

+The number of garments produced annually has doubled since 2000 and exceeded 100 billion, estimated at around 92 million tons of textile waste created annually from the fashion industry. Not to mention the increase of CO2 emissions and slave labor. Taking a step back and looking at what we already own can really make a big difference. And if I’m totally honest, the clothing I wear compared to the clothing I own, doesn’t really add up.

+So in order to reduce waste and save on the coins, I’ve become a regular online shopper. But when I say shopper I mean swapper. Online pre-loved selling sites such as EBay, and Vinted offer you the change to sell, swop and shop items for a fraction of the price. From couture, to designer, and even your high street favourites, everything is recycled to a new home, creating less waste.

+But what if you want something for a special occasion that you dont really want to keep? Well your fashion prayers have been answered, let me introduce you to HURR.

WHATS HURR ALL ABOUT?

HURR is the brand on a mission to make fashion not only more afforable for shoppers but also more sustainable for the planet. They are proud to be apart of the Ecologi group, who’s aim is to reverse climate change and look after the planet we live in. And HURR affirms it when they say “We’re giving fashion the green-over it really needs”.

+So back in 2017, a driven entrepreneur and CEO of HURR,
Victoria Prew created a fashion platform where women could rent, lend and also buy the latest luxury pre-loved pieces, with insane savings.

+With pop-up stores within
Selfridges and a growing online platform you can find everything your fashion heart desires. Dresses to outerwear, shoes to accessories, all from the designer brands you know and love. Ganni, Louis Vuitton, Jacqemes, Shrimps and Prada are just a few of their family of brands.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The platform enables you to do 3 things:

+LEND IT +RENT IT +BUY IT

+If there is something that tickles your fancy, you can rent the item for up to 20 days. Depending on the time borrowed and the item itself, will determine the price. It’s super easy to complete a booking, the messaging system will blissfully guide you through every step. With added eco-friendly dry cleaning and damage protection, what’s not to love.

+If you have a wardrobe full of fancy things you can share the goods with your fellow fashion sisters, and earn some serious cash in the process. All you need to do is upload photos of your item, set the rental price and location and wait for the request to come in. It’s then all in your hands to accept the requests. Once you approve a rental, you will be sent the postage details direct to your inbox. And voilà, All thats left to do is enjoy the cash flooding into your account, once the rental has ended.

+But that's not all. If you can't bare to part ways with something, you can make it a forever thing and send an offer to buy.

+HURR also offers gift cards, merch, (the tote bag is a yes from me) including reusable postage packs. Oh, and a ‘refer a friend’ scheme where you can get money back on your next rental!

+If you’re a Depop fan like me, you will love this one. HURR actually has a partnership with the selling platform giving you a chance to grab some exclusive pieces. The @theloopedit drops are sooooooo good, there's some serious bargains and again, all pre-loved, waiting for a new home.

+I’ve rented a few pieces for weddings and birthdays and the whole process was easy as pie. The pieces range from current season to old hidden gems and the stock just keeps getting better!

WHY YOU WILL ALSO LOVEEEEE HURR…

+HURR world. The blog or the download as they call it, has everything a fashun needs. From the latest edits, to inside the wardrobes of the likes of Stacey Dooley, to India Sehim ( @themirroredit gal) and just a shed load of good news you will love to read.

+Their support to empower women through the
Maliki empowering me charity. This charity was actually founded by a HURR lender, Noella Coursaris Musunka. The mission is to improve the futures of girls in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. With support from the HURR family, it enables access to education, clean water, and health programmes for the communities.

+All donations can be made via the HURR website including the proceeds from the HURRS
Wear To Care initiative. This allows pieces from the most stylist celebrities wardrobes to be rented with 100% of proceeds going towards Malaika’s school for girls.

+I hope this has given you some inspiration and ideas on how to be more sustainable when it comes to fashion. Recycle your style, swop it and even sell your old goods to make room for new! The smallest changes can make the biggest moves.

Coming from a styling background, I couldn’t resist creating some looks with a few of my favourite pieces from HURR, accessories, shoes, the lot! If you’re here, thank you for your support, and I hope you have found what you’re looking for with me.
